Black Family Lies Movie Campaign
Click to DonateBlack Family Lies is an autobiography of me, Charmaine Carter. The film focuses on the horrors I have faced in my lifetime. My dysfunctional family abused me in multiple ways: sexually, physically and mentally. All which lead to my drug addiction, prostitution, and suicide attempts. I escaped my family influence, I got help with my issues. Please donate to find out how and what I did next.
The counseling and NA (Narcotics Anonymous) meetings helped me to realize I was not alone. I found out that about 80% of the people there had been abused. I wanted to make this film for them, the African Americans that have suffered abuse in silence. I remembered how people thanked me for sharing my trauma with them. They told me how they felt like someone actually understood their pain. We need to encourage the still suffering abuse victims that there is life after the abuse and my story can be an example. This film can also educate others about how generational silence can destroy a family. We need this film now because, with the COVID-19 virus keeping people locked inside their homes, the abuse rate is back on the rise. More people are feeling trapped in their homes and are stuck suffering abuse with no outlet for the pain.
